048 ChildhoodOnce upon a time there was a little girl.
She was six years old and she liked to wear her prettiest dresses when she went on adventures.
One day her mother told her she should go outside and play, so she decided to go on a camping adventure.
She packed a sack with a blanket and a sandwich and a flashlight, and she grabbed her toy kitty and started off in the woods.
The little girl and her kitty stamped through the woods for hours, searching for the perfect spot for camping, but before long they began to get hungry.
Well, they stopped in a tiny mossy meadow, and they spread out their blanket, and shared their sandwich for lunch.
Then it began to rain! First a tiny little sprinkle tickled the little girl's nose, and then soon it was pouring and the little girl and her cat were drenched and cold.
So the girl and her cat scrambled to gather their wet blanket, and scurry into the woods where the leaves would hold off the rain.
Well, by that time the little girl was hopelessly lost. However,

Five is the number of heart wrenching hours you and your family were waiting in the hospital room, worried that your lives would crumble, that there would be five members of the family instead of six, that five days out of the week he would not come home for dinner, that five kisses from him would no longer be given to his wife and four children. Five was the amount of fingernails you bit off while watching people enter and exit the waiting room, and the amount of minutes your mother spent on the phone, explaining that something was wrong. Five is the critical difference between holding a father’s hand as your mother cries into his heart shaped pillow.
